Welcome back 7th and 8th grade families and welcome to our new 6th and 7th grade families. If you are the parent of a student with disability there is some important info we want to get out to you at the beginning of the school year. There is also information here for parents of students without disabilities.

1. LAUSD Special Educaiton Parent Training Calendar

Each month LAUSD does a variety of trainings for parents of students with IEPs. To learn about these trainings please visit the LAUSD Division of Special Education Parent Training Office website at http://sped.lausd.net/sepg2s/pg3_parentcalendar.htm OR see attached calendar.

2. LAUSD Complaint Response Unit (CRU)/Parent Resource Network (PRN)

The Los Angeles Unified School District (based on Modified Consent Decree requirements) established the Complaint Response Unit (CRU)/Parent Resource Network (PRN) in the Division of Special Education to respond to concerns of parents of students with disabilities. CRU/PRN services may be accessed by calling (800) 933-8133, or by visiting the Unit at the administrative offices of the Los Angeles Unified School District, located at 333 South Beaudry, 17th Floor, Los Angeles, 90017. The Unit is responsible for accurately recording all parent inquiries and complaints that are received by telephone or in writing. Through the Unit, the District provides parents with a written response in one of four ways. To learn more about it please read and the attached letter and flyer and/or visit the Complaint Response Unit/Parent Resource Network website at http://sped.lausd.net/sepg2s/pg3_cruprn.htm.

3. Section 504 and Students with Disabilities

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination/harassment on the basis of a disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance, such as public schools. Under Section 504, a plan may be developed to assist those students with disabilities who do not qualify for Special Education services but who may need accommodations that can be provided to them within the general education program.
