Audiobooks for Students & Parents

posted Aug 26, 2011, 5:11 PM by Unknown user

Listening to books read aloud is not just for elementary students! If your student struggles to independently read all the books assigned in class then perhaps he/she will benefit from listening to them while reading along in the book.

Listening to audiobooks is an excellent way for students to improve their reading skills and comprehension because it gives them a chance to listen to fluent readers. Listening to audiobooks is also a great way to get kids excited about books and motivated to read more on their own. Parents, you can also listen to the audiobook version of books your student reads as a way to  stay informed with what's happening in the classroom. Wouldn't it be great if you could sit down for dinner and discuss with your student about the book he/she is reading for Literature Circles?

One excellent place to find audiobooks is the public library. Another place to find them is www.audible.com/americanAudible.com is kind of like Netflix for audiobooks except that in the end you own the books. If you have any questions email Ms. Hubbard (khubbard@newlosangeles.org).
